Captain Starshield was once a famous intergalactic hero, rivaling Captain Qwark with his exploits. However, a month before the events of Deadlocked, Starshield was captured upon investigating the Shadow Sector.
In DreadZone, Starshield quickly became the number one ranking contestant. His abilities led him to a fatal mission in the last episode of the season, during which, after achieving victory, he was coldly shot in the back by his DreadZone rival Ace Hardlight (who used a weapon Juanita had snuck into his locker).
Ratchet, Clank, Big Al, and Captain Sasha had been looking into his death when - with the exception of Sasha - they were kidnapped by the Vox empire.
