Darla Gratch was a robot reporter for Channel 64 News, and formerly Channel 2 News. Though she always seems to be completely oblivious to the scenes of carnage and chaos around her, it's speculated that she merely doesn't care so long as she gets her story. It's possible that Darla knows about Qwark's true nature as during an interview with him she appeared generally annoyed at his melodramatic acts of "heroism", though whether she knows or simply wishes to get the story for Channel 64 has yet to be seen.
History
Edit
Ratchet & Clank
Edit
She was first seen reporting for Channel 2 News in Ratchet & Clank, covering the Blackwater City Hoverboard race and the appearance of Amoeboids in the city. As she signed off, an Amoeboid was behind her, mouth open, ready to swallow her whole. However, she later returned to cover a story live from the ruins of Gorda City.
In the epilogue, it stated that she fell in love with the Amoeboid who ate her and began a relationship with it.
Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando
Edit
She apparently covered news stories in the Bogon Galaxy as well, as she happily gave a report working for Channel 64 News on the "Protopetmania" that was sweeping across Allgon City, oblivious to the death and destruction being caused by the creatures all around her. She was seen on the verge of being attacked and devoured by a group of Protopets just before she signed off.
Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal
Edit
She once again returned to cover a story on the Tyhrranoid invasion of Veldin. As she signed off, a group of Tyhrranoids were aiming their blasters at her. Darla appeared on Tyhrranosis during the Galactic invasion to interview Captain Qwark on "his" victory over the Momma Tyhrranoid, which Ratchet actually destroyed. Qwark proceeded to brag about his "massive guns", and accidentally knocked Darla flat while showing himself off to his fans. After Nefarious attacked Metropolis, Darla was interviewing the Galactic President, asking him how it would affect his re-election campaign. She was also at the premiere of the Secret Agent Clank film.
Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters
Edit
She also appeared in Ratchet's Dreamtime, where she was floating as a picture in the background along with other characters from Ratchet's past adventures.
Secret Agent Clank
Edit
In Secret Agent Clank, Darla reported about the Eye of Infinity being stolen by Ratchet in the intro.
Behind the scenes
Edit
- Sylvia Aimerito provides the voice for Darla Gratch in Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando.[1][2]
Trivia
Edit
- In the first Ratchet & Clank game, Darla Gratch reported for Channel 2 News, not Channel 64 News. However, she reported for Channel 64 News in the demo version of the game. In the final game, her microphone was changed to "2" for Channel 2 News, and she says "Channel 2 News", though the animation moves her lips to say "Channel 64 News". It is unknown why Insomniac chose to make this change, only to revert to having her report for Channel 64 in later games.[source?]
