The Beacon Operator is a character in Quest for Booty. A hoolefoid who operates the supply beacon of Hoolefar Island, Merdegraw, the Beacon Operator is a member of the Local Beacon Union 3-19 labor union. Ratchet helped him fix the supply beacon while exploring through the island.

History[]

The Beacon Operator worked on the supply beacon for the island, and was affected by the sabotage that flipped its energy conductor. Due to lacking power, he was unable to fix it, but, relying on the benefits from his union, took lunch as his hands were tied, and when asked by Ratchet, complained about the mayor's inaction.[1]

In "Find the Beacon", after Ratchet restored the power, the Beacon Operator pointed Ratchet to the Smuggler, who was selling the VersaBolt needed to reattach the power supply to the beacon.[2] After Ratchet obtained it, he returned the part to the Beacon Operator, who thanked Ratchet on behalf of the union and attached it but was unable to turn it while on the break he took thereafter, citing union rules.[3]

During "Battle the Undead Pirates", the Beacon Operator praised Ratchet's shooting against the undead pirates. He was unable to formulate an excuse as to why he could not, but when Ratchet suggested his excuse was "union regulations", he responded affirmatively with a humorous tone.[4]

Characteristics[]

The Beacon Operator is a hoolefoid with a stumpier, rounder head with a less pointy lower jaw when compared to other hoolefoids. He speaks with a New Jersey accent. The Beacon Operator wears the same green-and-yellow uniform as the Wind Turbine Operator.

The Beacon Operator is a proud labor union member, boasting about its benefits[1][3] and its work.[2] He proudly stated at one point that the only language he spoke was "the language of solidarity".[5] In some cases, he appeared to use these regulations and work breaks as an excuse,[1][3] even offering up the excuse for why he could not help defend the island.[4]
