The difficulty selection menu in Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty

Difficulty is a setting which many games use to determine how hard the player will find the game. Difficulty settings generally affect how much damage enemies deal, and how much damage they can take.

Deadlocked[]

Deadlocked was the first game to introduce different difficulty levels, which included Couch Potato, Contestant, Gladiator, Hero, and Exterminator (effectively ranging from very easy to very hard). Players could at first only select the first four, with Exterminator becoming available upon unlocking challenge mode. Difficulty levels affect damage taken by Ratchet, how much health enemies have, how much nanotech Ratchet can heal from an orb, and how many Glamour Stars are earned for each challenge.

Size Matters and Secret Agent Clank[]

Size Matters and Secret Agent Clank both featured a hardcore mode which disabled the ability to manually save your game. It was only unlocked after the player had acquired 24 skill points (in Size Matters) and 65 skill points (in Secret Agent Clank).

Quest for Booty[]

In Quest for Booty the difficulty setting determines the intensity of enemy attacks.[1]

There are three settings in order of difficulty:

  1. Easy
  2. Medium
  3. Hard

A Crack in Time[]

There are three difficulty settings in A Crack in Time. When you finish the game for the first time you will unlock, aside from the usual Challenge Mode, a fourth difficulty option: Hardcore. In hardcore mode, projectile based enemy attacks were faster and damage that Ratchet received was increased substantially as well as enemies having more health. Boss Battles had no health crates or ammo crates, making them far more difficult than on other difficulty settings

  1. Casual
  2. Medium
  3. Hard
  4. Hardcore

Into the Nexus[]

There are three difficulty settings in Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, in addition to Challenge Mode.[2]

Hero is the middle difficulty setting in Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus. It is for experienced players. The trophy The Adventurer can be earned by completing Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus in Hero difficulty or higher.

Ratchet & Clank (2016 game)[]

There are three difficulty settings in addition to Challenge Mode.

  • Casual
  • Normal
  • Hard

Upon starting a new game, you are required to choose a difficulty. Upon starting a new Challenge Mode game, you can also choose which difficulty to play Challenge Mode in, which adds upon Challenge Mode's already increased difficulty.
