Infobot

From Ratchet & Clank wiki

An infobot from Ratchet & Clank.

Infobots were small robots that were once common in the Solana Galaxy, and which had the ability to carry coordinates for planets and to record videos or broadcasts. The screen on which these videos were shown appeared when an infobot opened its "mouth". With eyes like cameras, they were completely silent and retracted to a size small enough for Clank to store them inside his chest. Infobots disappeared almost entirely after the first Ratchet & Clank game in the Solana galaxy, now replaced by pop-up screens. These robots had likely became obsolete. In Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction in the Polaris Galaxy infobots appeared to be more common like they once were in the Solana Galaxy. Infobots had been arguably classed as neutral.

[edit] Ratchet & Clank

In Ratchet & Clank, the infobots were first seen when Ratchet acquired an infobot off the Novalis Chairman. After that, the duo needed an infobot to travel to other planets. Infobots contained adverts, secret conversations and broadcasts about a certain location, and then carried the co-ordinates of the location with it. It was also said that they could be used practically, especially for watching TV. Captain Qwark mentioned that the Qwark Classic Channel was available when you tuned your infobots.

[edit] Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando

In Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, Clank had a female infobot admirer who helped him out of the Thugs-4-Less flying prison. She may be the only Infobot to have ever taken a side in a conflict.

[edit] Ratchet & Clank: Going Mobile

In Ratchet & Clank: Going Mobile, infobots were used in the digital world to gain coordinates for Secret Agent Clank locations such as Maktar Casino.

[edit] Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction

In Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Captain Qwark gave Ratchet and Clank two 'infobots' during the game that he was able to steal from Emperor Percival Tachyon. One of the two was badly damaged and could only be played through the ships screen because it was unable to open it mouth up. Their appearance had changed slightly (as they resembled binoculars when completely inactive) and they played movies by opening their mouth rather than expanding it. There was also a cheat which allowed the player to hear developer commentary on certain planets through Infobots.
