Kaden

Kaden was a Lombax who was Ratchet's father and the keeper of the Dimensionator.^[1] When his people were driven to use the device to escape to another dimension following Percival Tachyon's overruning of Fastoon, Kaden refused to follow them in order to protect the device. He, along with his infant son Ratchet, his friend Alister Azimuth and the only known female Lombax to escape, Angela Cross, managed to escape Tachyon's ravaging of Fastoon (although it is likely other unknown Lombaxes had achieved this feat). It is believed that all Lombaxes who remained in Ratchet's dimension were hunted down and killed by Tachyon, including Kaden. The only known Lombaxes who managed to survive past that point were, Ratchet, Angela who later disappeared and Alister who became an exile on Torren IV.

Kaden and Alister Azimuth knew each other well and were good friends, having known each other as children. As adults, Alister became a respected leader in Lombax society, while Kaden had a child (Ratchet) with an unknown female Lombax. At some point, Kaden theorised of the Great Clock's existence, based off runes found on planet Quantos. Kaden would later invent the CyroMine Glove^[source?].

Due to a mistake made by Azimuth, Percival Tachyon used the Lombax's technology against them and attacked Fastoon. Kaden refused to follow his people to the Court of Azimuth for refuge, determined to save his family. By the time he returned home however, Ratchet's mother had already been killed by Tachyon's forces. Kaden then used the Dimensionator to send the surrivors of the attack to another dimension. Along with his infant son, Kaden fled from Fastoon. Tachyon, seeking to return the displaced Cragmites from their dimensional prison to complete his genocide and interdimensional conquest, began seeking the Dimensionator. As a result, Kaden passed the device on to explorer Max Apogee who relocated it on Jasindu, leaving an elaborate trail of clues throughout the Polaris Galaxy that only the best minds could follow. However, after Space Pirates stole a map to the original location of the device from the Apogee Space Station, Max Apogee pursued them and promptly disappeared. Fearing for his son's safety, Kaden dispatched Ratchet to the Solana Galaxy on planet Veldin, where he grew up alone in safety, not knowing of his heritage except for his species' name.

Kaden then faced Tachyon in combat, but soon lost. In his final moments, he refused to reveal the location of either the device or his son, and so Tachyon killed him. His murder was later avenged by his son when Ratchet came back to Fastoon and fought Tachyon, defeating him. Ratchet would later meet Alister as well and attempt to prevent Kaden's death by using the Great Clock to alter time, acquiring his late fathers old Hoverboots as well. However, after discovering what mis-using the Clock would cause and a battle with his father's friend, Ratchet managed to persuade Azimuth that the Clock was not a time machine, despite knowing he would never get to see his parents without it. Azimuth died in preventing the Clock being destroyed and Ratchet took the General's pocketwatch as a memento to his father, the General and the Lombaxes.

• It is thought that at one point, Kaden or some similar Lombax sold a Gyro-cycle to the Smuggler at the Vorox Nebula.^[2]
• Kaden's wrench looked similar to Ratchet's Omniwrench 8000. It was likely that it could be the same wrench, although this has not been confirmed.
• Kaden nearly broke his arm hoverbooting with Azimuth in the Krell Canyon Caves.
• According to Flint Vorselon, the Terraklon was supposedly Kaden's accountant.^[3] It is thought that this is a lie as Vorselon had a tendency to be very overdramatic for effect in various situations.
• Kaden invented one of the weapons used in A Crack in Time, the CryoMine Glove.^[4]
