Jasindu is location in Tools of Destruction, mentioned in A Crack in Time. A planet in the Praxus Sector of the Polaris Galaxy, Jasindu is a jungle planet that is home to the kerchu species, and to their capital Kerchu City. The territorial nature and hostility of the kerchu, meant the planet had few outside visitors. The planet was also rich in gelatonium, and the kerchu had a large underground gelatonium plant near the city.

Ratchet and Clank came to Kerchu City in search of the Dimensionator, after learning that Max Apogee had left it there. However, space pirates followed them and predicted their flight path, fighting the kerchu to try to take the device for themselves.

The GrummelNet Industries intergalactic travel guide placed Kerchu City above Zordoom Prison and the sulphur mines of Praxis VI on its list of worst vacation spots in the universe, due to the hostility of the kerchu and the fact that all lifeforms in the known universe are allergic to kerchu.[2][3][4]

Max Apogee relocated the Dimensionator into Kerchu City[5] before vanishing completely. Though many suspected he had died of an allergic reaction to the kerchu[3] or been killed by space pirates, he had fled the dimension alongside Angela Cross, his ship placed on auto-pilot with Jasindu registered as its point of origin.[6]

Ratchet and Clank learned from the IRIS Supercomputer that the Dimensionator was on Jasindu.[5] In "Escape from Slag's Clutches", after space pirates intercepted Aphelion, they deduced from Ratchet and Clank's trajectory that the Dimensionator was located there and traveled there themselves.[7]

In "Fight Your Way into the City", Ratchet, the pirates, and the kerchu fought inside Kerchu City, the pirates directed to tear up the city until they found it and kill any kerchu they saw.[8] Ratchet and Clank then defeated the guardian using a kerchu mechwrecker defending the Dimensionator and obtained it. However, Captain Slag took it from them, as the pirates surrounded Ratchet and Rusty Pete held Clank the throat, forcing them to relinquish it. Ratchet nonetheless followed them to the Ublik Passage to chase after it.[9]

A Crack in Time[]

Jasindu like many other planets was affected by time anomalies. Clank repaired the anomalies in the Great Clock.[10]

Galactic authorities recovered Max Apogee's starship, tracing Jasindu as its point of origin. Kerchu ambassador Boogoh was unreachable for comment.[6]

Geography[]

Jasindu from space appears to have a tropical climate, and a roughly even mix of ocean and land.

Kerchu City is a fortress located in the midst of a jungle island. The jungle is green, with a variety of flora and mountains. The fortress itself comprises a number of yellow buildings with various machinery visible, including cranes, large gears akin to giant clock-faces, and several smokestacks. At the rear of the fortress is where the Dimensionator was hidden, which includes a large platform surrounded by a grind rail and various structures, all spread across tiny islands in a large lake.

Underground is a vast gelatonium facility, partially constructed across a large cave system.[11] There are several large gelatonium pools present, but no rivers nor waterfalls, with only tubes seen carrying the material. The presence of the natural caves indicates it might be a natural source of gelatonium. The refinery is populated by tumfoids.

Kerchu City was the first level developed for the game by the end of preproduction, Fall 2006. Though it was functional by this point, it was unstable.[12] Moo Yu, Lead Gameplay Programmer at Insomniac Games, commented that choosing it as a goal gave the team focus. During recording of Tools of Production, the level was still out of memory.[13]

Environment artists Jacinda Chew, Tom Barlow, and Nathaniel Bell created the bulk of the level, with the main challenge being to make the level look as good upside-down as it did right-side up. Zach Adams, Senior Environment Artist at Insomniac, worked on the kerchu boss with artist Chris Capili immediately after Resistance: Fall of Man, requiring significant trial and error to achieve the end result.[14] Yu commented that his favorite part was the boss fight, and that it was made over-the-top due to the time that preproduction gave them.[13]
