Lawrence was Dr. Nefarious' robotic butler. His day-to-day duties usually involved "dirty laundry and whatnot". He had a clear dislike for his boss, whom he often pummeled with subtle insults ("Even drooling imbeciles can achieve greatness in certain fields, sir. Mad Science, for example", "If anyone can beat a moron at his own game, it's you sir.", "You put the 'wit' in 'twit’, sir.") or purposely did a bad job. Lawrence's favorite part of the day is when Nefarious freezes up and plays a radio soap opera in his head and Lawrence has to whack him on the head to get him unfrozen. Yet Nefarious, who either could not fend for himself or didn't catch on to Lawrence's true nature, still kept him by his side.
His hobbies included playing the bass guitar that he plays left handed like Paul McCartney or Jimi Hendrix. He plays an electric guitar that plays low notes in a rock song that made Lawrence a perfect bass player in a rock band. His status as a guitar player was revealed just before the final battle of Up Your Arsenal. This could mean he was the rocker of the series so far.
By the end of the game, Lawrence almost left Nefarious to fend for himself, but joined his master in the Bio-Bliterator. Lawrence followed his master to the asteroid and assured the villain that something will come along... in five or ten ‘’thousand’’ years. This was not true of course as they were in the next game. He suggested that they play bass rock music to pass the time since they didn’t have a microphone, an electric guitar, or a drum set.
Lawrence made an appearance at the very end of Deadlocked. He was still drifting on the same asteroid strumming his bass guitar; it flew past the remnants of DreadZone Station. He failed to anticipate that the station would explode (Gleeman Vox had destroyed the facility within an hour beforehand).
[edit] Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time
Lawrence will be returning in Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time as Nefarious' butler again [1]. He was seen in the Great Clock alongside Nefarious and a captive Clank. He mainly took the job of monitoring Clank. He could often be seen hiding next to windows out of Clank's sight, sometimes peeking in and monitoring things.
During the final battle against Nefarious, Lawrence was ordered to take the ship out of harms way. However, the ship became the final battleground between Ratchet and Nefarious. Lawrence manned a space laser and aided his master in attacking. And after Nefarious was defeated and fell unconscious, Lawrence made away in the escape pod, leaving his master's body to crash into the station.
[edit] Trivia
- Lawrence was familiar with sign language (or Ratchet's version of sign language, more of gestures with different purposes) as shown on a tele-broadcast cutscene, where he was prompting the hearing impaired with signs while Dr Nefarious was talking.
- Lawrence also writes songs, most notably of which being 'Bass Odyssey'.
