Morklon is a location in Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time. It is a swamp planet in the Corvus sector of the Breegus System. Gimlick Valley was located on it. It had vegetated parts within it. It was inhabited by Fongoids, who colonized it and turned the mucky Gimlick Valley into a beautiful village paradise. However, the Agorians led by their leader, Commander Argos, invaded the valley, kill off most of the Fongoids and destroyed the Floodgate that kept the valley from flooding. Ratchet and Clank crash landed on this planet after Dr. Nefarious launched them on an asteroid from his Asteroid Flinger 5000, 10 years from the Agorian attack. Fortunately, the Zoni protected them on the crash. There was a major Fongoid outpost here, but when they arrived the area was nothing but Fongoids ruins and swamp lands. They ran into a lone Fongoid (later found out to be Yurik) who told them the story of how their tribe were defeated by the Agorians. Ratchet and Clank thought they could maybe get a ship from the Fongoids, if they went back in time and protected the tribe and Fongoids' floodgate from the Agorians. They successfully defeated Commander Argos and protected the floodgate. The Fongoids agreed to rebuild Argos's ship and let Ratchet and Clank use it. Ratchet and Clank traveled back to present time and got the ship, then returned to the Nefarious Space Station.

The Erundai Outpost was a Fongoid outpost on planet Morklon, in the Gimlick Valley. Zahn Gribnak constructed this outpost, which was the home to hundreds of Fongoids. The outpost had a floodgate within it, that protected the outpost from flooding. Erundai Outpost was dismantled by the Agorian commander Argos, during the Battle of Gimlick Valley; however, it was restored when Ratchet and Clank saved the settlement.

History[]

Before Ratchet & Clank[]

Zahn Gribnak was the leader of the settlement in Gimlick Valley, where all the Fongoids lived in peace until a band of Agorians from the Bernilius Sector invaded and attacked. Desperate, Gribnak bravely led a retaliation of poorly equipped and under-trained soldiers against the Agorians and ended up being captured, briefly pardoned, captured again, and finally killed. As a final act to get rid of the Fongoids, the Agorians destroyed the floodgate of the valley and the settlement was destroyed in the ensuing surge of water.

A Crack in Time[]

Ten years after the Battle of Gimlick Valley, Dr. Nefarious used the Asteroid Flinger 5000 to send Ratchet and Clank flying through space, eventually crash-landing on Morklon. The planet became covered with a derelict swamp, with only one surviving Fongoid who appeared to have gone slightly mad. After the Fongoid explained about the demise of the settlement, Clank quickly thought of a way that the duo could obtain a ship to travel back to the Nefarious Space Station.

Clank contacted Sigmund to activate a time portal in a nearby time rift so that they could go back ten years to defend the outpost.

Stepping back in time, Ratchet & Clank saw the settlement how it used to be: a lush and vegetated settlement being ravaged by Agorian invaders. A young Fongoid child, later revealed to be the Fongoid the two had talked to as an adult, spotted Ratchet and asked him to help them. Ratchet proceeded to do so, taking out many Agorian troops and freeing Zahn Gribnak from captivity. After defeating two upgraded elite hydra tanks, Ratchet realized that the battle could not truly be won unless Commander Argos was taken out. There was no way to reach the top of the floodgate to face Argos, so Ratchet used his prior experience of time travel to plant some vine seeds. Amazingly, one of the vines from the present had grown straight through the time portal and led straight up to the floodgate, prompting Clank to comment on how astronomically small the chances of that happening were. After riding the vine from the present, Ratchet found his way to the floodgate and faced off against Commander Argos, an Agorian general who was piloting his Class 3 Agorian Space Cruiser. Argos was defeated in the following fight and his ship ended up sinking to the bottom of the river. As a way to repay the heroes for what they had done, Gribnak said they would salvage the Agorian ship from the river even though it could take some time.

Traveling back to the present, the victory of the Fongoids had changed the valley to a populated and thriving settlement. The present was actually a day of remembrance of the battle, while Ratchet and Clank were initially mistaken for actors due to take part in a re-enactment of the battle. Three statues were built in the settlement as well, depicting and honoring Zahn, Ratchet, and Clank. The Fongoid they originally talked to remarked how the pair seemed familiar and then let the duo borrow the ship so that they could travel back to stop Nefarious from reaching the Great Clock.

Geography[]

Gimlick Valley[]

As a result of the Battle of Gimlick Valley, it was a derelict, dead and toxic place when Ratchet had first visited, but after time travelling back and saving the fongoids from dying off, the place became vegetated like it always was.

Fongoids lived within this valley, in the Eurandi Outpost. The water there was once pure, but after the invasion of the Agorians, the water there became infected and dirty. After time changing, the water came back to its pure state.

Hydroplants and Pollen plants were present, as well as vines that could be traversed via Grind Boots.

Containment Camp[]

The Containment Camp was a small prison camp the Agorians established in Gimlick Valley during the famed Battle of Gimlick Valley on planet Morklon. It was built to hold captured Fongoid warriors under the command of Zahn Gribnack (who was also captured), where they would later be briefly pardoned, followed by being place back into the camp before they were executed. However, Ratchet and Clank went back in time to change the original timeline, storming the Containment Camp and freeing Zahn and his men, resulting in a Fongoid win over the Agorians. The Fongoids later demolished the Containment Camp following the battle.

Behind the scenes[]

The alterations to the timeline by changing the outcome of the Battle of Gimlick Valley did not substantially affect the universe outside of planet Morklon or the Fongoids' own secluded settlements. As the Fongoids abhor technology, they by and large do not interact with the galactic community and would not incur influence with one of their settlements being saved. Chief Zahn Gribnak also appears to have died at some point in the ten years between the battle and the present with statues in his memory still appearing regardless of the battle's outcome. An alteration created is that Commander Argos would instead not go on to be revered by the Agorians as a legendary warrior.
