The PlayStation Vita, also known as the PS Vita, is a handheld games console created by Sony. It was released in Japan on 17 December 2011, in Europe and North America on 22 February 2012 and in Australia on February 23, 2012. It features PlayStation Network compatibility through either a Wi-Fi connection or a 3G connection with some models.[1] The consoles hardware includes two analog sticks, a front and rear camera and a front and rear touch screen interface.

The PlayStation Vita can access the PlayStation Network via an internet connection. Similarly the console can access the PlayStation Store to download application and games in addition to using PlayStation Vita cards and PlayStation Vita memory cards.[1] Through using the PlayStation Store compatibility with games released for the system's predecessor is possible.[2] The PlayStation Vita also includes trophy support.[3]

The PlayStation Vita also supports cross-play features allowing compatibility with the PlayStation 3. Titles with compatibility can share game saves or multiplayer games online across both consoles. Some titles, typically Sony published games, allow consumers to receive the PlayStation Vita version of the game for free when purchased on the PlayStation 3.[4]
