Pollyx Industries was a Terachnoid company based in Axiom City on planet Terachnos. The company was founded and led by Pollyx, and specialized in studying the Zoni and their technology. The company also has a number of subsidiary divisions in the fields of construction, weapons development and technical support.

History[]

Before A Crack in Time[]

For years Pollyx and his team of Terachnoid employees have scoured the Polaris Galaxy for specimens of lost Zoni technology and hoarded them for study at their company headquarters. Pollyx however quickly began selling their findings to tyrants for profit. The company steadily grew in power and now holds significant influence in Axiom City. The reason for Pollyx's fixation on the Zoni and their creations is not fully known, however it is believed he sought their mysterious power over time for his own personal gain.

When Dr. Nefarious came to the Breegus System and learned of the Zoni's greatest creation, the Great Clock, he set out on a plan to control it and use it to rewrite history to his own twisted liking. To advance his plans, Nefarious partnered with Pollyx and his company signed an exclusive contract with the Doctor to find Zoni technology for him, and assist him in his ultimate goal. Using Pollyx Industries' wealth of knowledge on the Zoni and their technology, Nefarious was able to learn much about the creatures, including how to combat and contain them. Pollyx Industries collaborated with Nefarious' forces, and Nefarious Troopers were integrated into the company defenses. Using knowledge from both the Fongoids and Pollyx Industries, Nefarious learned of the Great Clock's secret location and it's sealed master control center, the Orvus Chamber.

Zanifar Nefarious Lawrence Pollyx Orvus

Pollyx assists Dr. Nefarious in his interrogation of Orvus.

Shortly before the events of Tools of Destruction began, Nefarious made contact with the Zoni's leader, Orvus, and requested a private meeting with him at the Tombli Outpost on planet Zanifar. Upon arrival, Orvus was captured and Pollyx assisted in interrogating him on how to enter the Orvus Chamber. Despite insisting to Nefarious that this plan would work, Pollyx could not find any answers when scanning Orvus' mind. Just before Orvus mysteriously dissipated, Pollyx was able to find a residual image from his data banks, revealing Clank as Orvus' heir and the only one who could open the chamber.

Around this time, Pollyx Industries completed their commissioned construction of the Nefarious Space Station, which Nefarious then moved to and made his new base of operations after leaving Zanifar. Many Terachnoid employees from Pollyx Industries worked at the station and directly managed it's facilities.

A Crack in Time[]

Ratchet and Azimuth break into Pollyx Industries.

In order to contact Clank at the Great Clock, Alister Azimuth made a plan with Ratchet to break into Pollyx Industries and procure the location of an Obsidian Eye from Pollyx's personal computer. Knowing Pollyx Industries kept a database of every Obsidian Eye in the universe, Azimuth concluded this was their only viable option to find one. When Ratchet and Azimuth were spotted in Axiom City, Nefarious Troopers were dispatched by Pollyx to hunt them down. Azimuth had once saved the life of an employee at the company named Jarvis from becoming food for the Agorians, and contacted him to return the favor by helping the Lombaxes bypass the company's defense system in Neurox Plaza. Once Ratchet and Azimuth acquired the location of an Obsidian Eye on planet Lumos, Nefarious unleashed his VX-99 hoverdrone to rampage through the city and destroy the Lombaxes.

About this same time, Pollyx announced that in the Vartan Nebula the company had just located their one hundredth piece of Zoni technology and to celebrate they will be setting up a scholarship fund for "the mentally stupid", which are Terachnoids with an IQ of under 7000.[1]

The Nefarious Space Station is destroyed.

Pollyx calculated exactly how many paradoxes will be needed for Nefarious' plan and relocated to the Nefarious Space Station following the attack on his company. When Ratchet, Clank and Qwark infiltrated the station and destroyed Nefarious' docked ship fleet, all Terachnoids present were evacuated on transport ships. After the Nefarious Space Station was destroyed and Dr. Nefarious was defeated, Pollyx and his company cut ties with the Doctor. It is not known what repercussions Pollyx Industries faced from their involvement in Nefarious' plans, but Pollyx and his company both endured and continued operating.

Before the Nexus[]

The Infamous Prog Twins Vendra Neftin Nexus

Vendra and Neftin Prog's assault on Pollyx Industries.

With assistance from Thugs-4-Less, the infamous crime duo Vendra and Neftin Prog launched a violent assault on Pollyx Industries with the intention of abducting some of the company's top scientists. Ratchet and Clank came to quell the disturbance and managed to fight the Progs back. Although Vendra was apprehended and arrested, Neftin managed to escape with a number of hostages. Amongst those kidnapped from the company were Fleebar Snuttleblast, an unnamed lab assistant and Pollyx himself. The abducted Terachnoids were taken to the Progs' secret base on planet Yerek in the Zarkov Sector, and were forced to build transdimensional portal technology needed to help the Nethers cross over into this dimension.

Into the Nexus[]

Yerek Pollyx cutscene

Pollyx's make shift lab on planet Yerek.

After six months, Ratchet and Clank were led to planet Yerek where they encountered the kidnapped lab assistant and Pollyx. After rescuing the lab assistant from two Thugs, the duo found Pollyx in a secret lab inside the Azeril Caverns. Pollyx installed Clank with a transdimensional software upgrade that allowed robots to enter rifts into the Netherverse. It was revealed the Progs had used the Terachnoids to create a counterfeit version of the Dimensionator, which was able to breach the thinned dimensional walls in the Zarkov Sector and create traversable portals for the Nethers. Once the Nethers betrayed the Progs on planet Silox and their operations collapsed, the Terachnoids made their escapes and fled the Zarkov Sector. Pollyx later went with Neftin and Qwark to Meridian City on planet Igliak, and helped in repairing the original Dimensionator to banish the Nethers back to their dimension.

The state of Pollyx Industries without it's CEO for six months is unknown. Once the Nether crisis was resolved however, it is likely Pollyx and the kidnapped employees returned to their previous roles within the company.

Creations[]

Nefarious Space Station[]

The Nefarious Space Station was designed and built by Pollyx Industries, and served as Dr. Nefarious' home once he left planet Zanifar. The Nefarious Space Station is roughly one-third the size of Axiom City, and is considered to be the most ridiculously overpowered head-shaped space station ever created.[2]

Dynamo of Doom/Dynamo of Devastation[]

Designed by Pollyx Industries to ward off unruly space pirates, this ingenious weapon fires a deadly ionized orb that can be remote-controlled on the battlefield. Although designed by Pollyx Industries, the weapon was manufactured and sold by GrummelNet.[3]

Grav Tether[]

Whilst in captivity on planet Yerek, Pollyx invented this gravity defying gadget to transport its user across bottomless chasms and death pits. The device was capable of creating a stream of focused gravity between two specific targets. It was used by the Terachnoids to navigate around the planet and later by Ratchet.[4]

Rift Cracker[]

Pollyx's highly experimental fusion of transdimensional portal technology and robotic systems yielded this upgrade. It's firmware could be installed into robots, allowing them to detect dimensional rifts or anomalies and traverse through them without harm. It was used by Clank to find rifts in the Zarkov Sector and enter the Netherverse.[5]

Nether Dimensionator[]

Nether Dimensionator

The Nether Dimensionator in use.

Under duress from the Progs and Thugs-4-Less, Pollyx and his team of Terachnoids were forced to build their own version of the Lombax Dimensionator to free the Nethers from the Netherverse. The device was not a true Dimensionator and not capable of the same boundless abilities as the original. The Nether Dimensionator was only able to stabilize portals to the Netherverse in the Zarkov Sector, where the walls between the two dimensions were significantly thinned after twenty years of constant transdimensional experimentation. To function the device also needed to be used in conjunction with Vendra Prog's own powers to connect with the Netherverse.

Visually it appears the same as the Lombax Dimensionator, but with a rougher and more unrefined design. The Lombax plushie and extended boxing glove seen on the original Dimensionator is also replaced with a plushie of the Nether leader Mr. Eye and an extended hatchet.

Services[]

Pollyx OmniTech[]

Pollyx Industries also operated a subsidiary known as Pollyx OmniTech which provided technical support services to call in customers. OmniTech's team of three-brained Terachnoid sages and technicians were certified in the fields of home computing, videogame testing, quantum physics, VCR repair, nanotechnology and more. Although the company claimed to provide answers with professionalism and efficiency, technicians would often ridicule the intelligence of their clients.[6]

Discoveries[]

Zoni Technology[]

Pollyx Industries have for years located various sorts of Zoni technology throughout the Polaris Galaxy, and as of A Crack in Time have procured one hundred samples.

Obsidian Eyes[]

In their thorough hunt for all technology related to the Zoni, Pollyx Industries uncovered the locations of every Obsidian Eye in the known universe and stored the findings in their headquarters database on Pollyx's personal computer. An Obsidian Eye powered by a Fulcrum Star is the only known way the Zoni could be contacted.

Time Bomb[]

Pollyx's Terachnoid sages discovered a specimen of a rare Zoni device in the Corvus Sector, which they designated as Project file 1171-Zeta, or the Time Bomb. After extensive study, they found that each bomb contained a finite amount of quantum energy capable of inhibiting the passage of time. The sages however used the last of the samples to freeze their mother-in-laws in slowed time and stop them from coming home in time for the holidays. The setback was cataclysmic, and the project was terminated.[7]

Behind the scenes[]

Pollyx and Pollyx Industries is an alteration in spelling of and reference to Pollux, the brightest star in the constellation of Gemini.

The company logo of Pollyx Industries is that of an atom with electrons orbiting the nucleus.
