The wrench was a basic melee weapon that could also be used as a tool for activating Bolt Cranks, among other things. There were several forms of wrenched found across both the Solana and Bogon galaxies, and some versions were also developed by Vox Industries in the Shadow Sector. Ratchet always carried a wrench, he used several different wrenches throughout his life.

Ratchet initially carried a Gadgetron OmniWrench 8000, although during his time in the Bogon Galaxy he replaced it with more powerful wrenches. OmniWrench 8000 V2 on Tabora and OmniWrench 8000 V3 on Aranos, respectively. He continued to use the wrench he found on Aranos after he returned to Solana. The wrench could be temporarily enhanced further using the Infernox Crates, turning it into an Infernox wrench, which set fire to anything it touched.

While in DreadZone, Ratchet acquired a series of new, progressively stronger wrenches: the Versa-Wrench Lite, Versa-Wrench Multicore, Versa-Wrench Striker, Fission Lance and Obsidian Blade. These wrenches could be modified with morphing mod by using a cheat. Fission Lance and Obsidian Blade were also on fire like Infernox wrench.
