A Lombax was a bipedal species that were completely covered in yellow, velvety fur, with orange stripes running down part of their body. They had large cat-like ears and triangular feet with three claws on each foot, as well as large hands with four fingers. Ratchet was the only surviving Lombax in his dimension after the existing Lombaxes fled to another dimension in order to avoid being destroyed by Percival Tachyon. Lombaxes had an innate affinity towards gadgetry and machinery. The Lombaxes originated from the Polaris Galaxy where, years ago, they fought a Great War against the Cragmite empire. The Lombaxes were hailed as the saviors of Polaris after defeating the Cragmites. However, one Cragmite, Tachyon, survived. The Lombaxes then raised him, once he found out that he was a Cragmite, he raised an army against the Lombaxes. Taken by surprise, the Lombaxes fled to another dimension, with only two Lombaxes staying behind to hide the dimensionator from Tachyon. Ratchet's father, who stayed to protect the dimensionator with his son, sent Ratchet to the Solana Galaxy to keep him safe from Tachyon. Tachyon then killed Ratchet's father and was known to have taken great pleasure in it. Ratchet later defeated Tachyon, whilst preventing the cragmites from returning to his dimension, he also got a glimpse of the lombax dimension through the dimensionator.

While channel surfing past Clank's new TV show, "Secret Agent Clank", Ratchet stumbled across a news report about his home planet, Veldin, being under attack by an army of Tyhrranoids. They were believed to be working for a cyborg by the name of Dr. Nefarious. After racing to Veldin and being appointed as the new sergeants for the Galactic Rangers, they were contacted by the President and asked to find the only man who had ever saw Nefarious and lived, who was believed to be living on planet Florana as the Florana tree beast. After watching an episode of "Nature's Mysteries" about this creature, they flew to the Nabla Forest on Florana where it made them cross the Path of Death.

Metropolis was the capital city of planet Kerwan, and one of the biggest cities in the Solana Galaxy with over three trillion inhabitants. Al's Roboshack was also located in this city, along with Captain Qwark's fitness course. It was the location where Dr. Nefarious first used the Bio-Bliterator, thus turning the Tyhrranoids into robots.
Metropolis was a large, bustling city, and it was the capital sector of a planet-wide city. It appeared to be a very environmentally-friendly city, as the buildings were dotted in plants and moss, and the platforms also were grassy areas as opposed to the expected concrete. The buildings themselves often had bronze caps on them as decorations. It was not unusual in Metropolis to not see the ground below.
The city had varying means of transportation. The most common means was that of flying cars, which flew in pre-designated lanes. Grav-Trains ran about on grindrails to provide another means of getting around the city for the average citizen. There are also similar hovering trains, which are used to load cargo around Metropolis. The adventurous commuter could take the grind rails to get around, provided they could avoid the Grav-Trains.
Other features included meteor pads and the dense pale blue fog that gathered in the lower parts of the city, obscuring the view.

Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty, titled as Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty in Europe and Australia and Ratchet & Clank Future Gaiden: Kaizoku Dark Water no Hihou in Japan, is the eighth installment in the Ratchet & Clank series. It was released worldwide on the PlayStation Network on August 21st, 2008 and was also released on Blu-Ray Disc in Europe, on September 12th, 2008, and in Asia on September 25th, 2008. It continues from where Tools of Destruction left off. Clank was kidnapped by the mysterious Zoni, and Ratchet is determined to get him back. Due to its length, approximately 3-4 hours of playtime, it was released at a lower price than most PlayStation 3 games. The story of Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty is focused on Ratchet searching for Clank and continues the story from Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. Ratchet and Talwyn flew up to a floating pirate base on planet Merdegraw with the Aphelion and got on it. There they started searching for Captain Darkwater, who was an expert on Zoni culture, only to encounter Rusty Pete wandering while holding the head of Captain Slag. This attracted the attention of some pirates and Sprocket, a Rogue. Sprocket shot Ratchet out of a cannon only to have him land on an adjacent pirate ship. Ratchet and Talwyn fought through the fleet and Ratchet catapulted himself to another ship.

The Aphelion was a Lombax ship shot down on Fastoon during Tachyon's invasion. It was later repaired by Ratchet when he was stranded on Fastoon, Ratchet then continued to use it as his own ship for the events afterwards, including several instances of space combat. There were two words written in Lombax on the Aphelion; one read as "Aphelion" and the second one as "angel". The Aphelion was the first ship Ratchet came across that could speak.
The Aphelion was originally constructed by the Lombaxes, presumably as a defensive fighter as it was armed. During Percival Tachyon's invasion of Fastoon the Aphelion was used to attack Drophyd forces at the Court of Azimuth, it was here that the ship was shot down by a Drophyd fighter using seeker ammo. It was not known if the Aphelion was piloted during the battle, however if it was, the pilot was probably either killed or escaped into the Lombax dimension. The damaged ship was then left on Fastoon as the planet was abandoned.
Many years later, Ratchet landed on Fastoon and needed to find a way to get off of the planet. He came across the damaged Aphelion and found that it needed six parts. He then found all of the pieces needed for the ship's repair scattered in six different locations on the planet. After repairing the ship, he found that the ship could perform space travel. The Aphelion thanked Ratchet for fixing her and identified him as a Lombax. Ratchet used the Aphelion's HD-800 screen to view a Holo-Vite from Qwark inviting him to the Imperial Fight Festival on Mukow. The Aphelion took off with Ratchet and Clank to Mukow. The Aphelion then became Ratchet's ship, taking him all over galaxy to whatever planets he needed to go to. She travelled with Ratchet and Clank to four sectors of Polaris, on Rykan V, the Aphelion even assisted Ratchet and Clank during a HALO jump with Cronk and Zephyr.

The wrench was a tool that was often used as a melee weapon. Different wrenches were produced by various companies including Gadgetron. Vox Industries also provided upgrades for the Gadgetron OmniWrench 8000 for their DreadZone combat holo-vision show. Wrenches were commonly used as a mechanic's tool for turning bolt cranks and repairing vehicles. As newer versions of the wrench were released illegal modifications, such as the kinetic tether, were created. The wrench seemed to have been a weapon commonly used by the Lombaxes, and at least one Lombax, Alister Azimuth, used a double-ended wrench. Ratchet used the OmniWrench 8000 when he was a mechanic on Veldin. When he left the planet with Clank, he brought it with him and started using it as a weapon, since then he had always had a wrench with him. Ratchet used many different types of wrenches during his adventures, including the Versa-Wrench Striker and OmniWrench 10K.
Wrenches could be used for a variety of tasks. As a tool they could be used to tighten nuts and help in the repair of vehicles. With a box breaker, a hyper-strike with a wrench would break any nearby breakables. A comet-strike could be used to destroy explosive crates from a safe distance. They could also be used to turn Bolt Cranks and, as they were magnetized; they could be used to collect bolts from afar. As a weapon, wrenches were used to strike enemies with. The OmniWrench Millennium 12 could be used to pick up items such as Lava Rocks. Wrenches could also be used to travel down zip lines.

Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, titled as Ratchet & Clank 5: Gekitotsu! Dodeka Ginga no MiriMiri Gundan in Japan, is the fifth game in the Ratchet & Clank series, that was originally designed for the PlayStation Portable, but was later released on the PlayStation 2 as well. It is the first Ratchet & Clank game on the PlayStation Portable. Size Matters was developed by High Impact Games, a company spawning from the original Ratchet & Clank developer, Insomniac Games. It is the first Ratchet & Clank game to get an E10+ rating by the ESRB and +7 by PEGI. The original PlayStation Portable version was released on February 14, 2007 in North America, and the PlayStation 2 port was released on March 11, 2008.Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters has most of the basic gameplay elements from the other Ratchet & Clank games. The weapons are similar from previous games in the series except for the R.Y.N.O. Weapons can gain experience, and mods that are similar to the ones in Up Your Arsenal can be purchased for weapons. Several locked doors require Ratchet to use a shrink ray and then complete a "grind lock" course, dodging mines on the rails and hitting switches with your wrench to safely pass through doors. Ratchet also collects armor pieces for seven different sets of armor, including two sets exclusive to "challenge mode", which can all be customized. Mini-games include Skyboard Races, demolition matches with Clank vehicles, a basketball-like robot throwing competition, and a robot control game very much like in concept to Lemmings. Also, there are parts when you only played Clank for a specific purpose.
The game is set after the events of Deadlocked, where Ratchet decided to have a break and went on vacation to the tropical planet of Pokitaru. However, while they were relaxing, the duo met a little girl named Luna, who was writing a school report on heroes. Ratchet agreed to do some stuff for her, but shortly after, Luna was kidnapped by robots. After chasing and fighting robots, Clank then stumbled upon a mysterious Technomite Artifact from an ancient race. Ratchet denied a that the artifact was made from Technomites, but ignored it and continued. Ratchet and Clank then set out to save Luna. In the process, they discovered a forgotten race of smart, but diminutive, inventors known as the Technomites. They traced the artifact that Luna dropped when she was captured all the way to Ryllus. After some advice Qwark (who had followed them to Ryllus, wanting to find his lost family), they attacked their way through the enemies and reached the mysterious buidling. They found a Technomite map room there and find the coordinates to Kalidon. Meanwhile, Qwark had looked up his family tree on a suspicious website and decided to find his family.
