The Star Explorer was the Megacorp-made starfighter that Ratchet received to fulfill his commando missions for Abercrombie Fizzwidget. Over the next year, Ratchet fitted it with a Gravometric warp drive to return to the Solana Galaxy.

The Star Explorer had a standard laser cannon, auto-lock missile launchers, standard shielding and a warp drive. With more Raritanium (collected from 'space junk', enemy fighter kills or Raritanium mines on the Planets Tabora and Grelbin), Ratchet could upgrade to enhanced versions of existing weapons and gadgets, or he could buy new property.

[edit] Characteristics
The Star Explorer basic model came equipped with a basic Blargian Red color, standard wings and nose. However, vendors such as Slim Cognito's Ship Shack and the one aboard the Starship Phoenix offered Ratchet the chance to change the look of the Explorer with Hi-Lift Wings, Heavy Ordinance Wings, a scoop Nose, or a split Nose. Additionally, new paint jobs for the starfighter became available when Ratchet acquired more Raritanium (Going Commando) or skill points (Up Your Arsenal).

- Blargian Red: Red color, the standard color for your ship.
- Bogon Blue: Dark blue color.
- Orxon Green: Green color.
- Drek's Black Heart: Black with some red stripes.
- Lombax Orange: Golden yellow with black tiger stripes.
- supernova: Brown and gold color.
- Space Storm: Green camouflage.
- Silent Streak: Grey with some rusty looking spots.
- Dark Nebula: Black/Blue color.
- Solar Wind: Blue/Purple color with flames.
- Star Traveler: Yellow with checkered stripes, looks like a taxi cab.
- Neutron Star: Grey with a red stripe on each wing.
- Lunar Eclipse: Tan with dark brown spots.
- Clowner: Red with pink dots.
- Prepster: Purple with green stripes and a green ying-yang symbol on each wing.
- Plaidtastic: Dark pink with flowers and a smiley face.
- Insomniac Special: Black with the Insomniac logo (a moon) on the wings and
nose.

Note that all wings/paint jobs/noses cost 5 Raritanium each in Going Commando, and had no effect on combat attributes.

- Spaceships looking very similar in appearance to the Star Explorer could be seen floating around in the Spaceship Graveyard, especially in Qwark's section in Secret Agent Clank.
