The Zoni were mystical ghost-like beings of energy, who had the ability to manipulate time and space to their will. The Zoni are neither robots or a biological life form, but are actually made of pure energy and must wear metal suits to survive in other dimensions. The Zoni were a hive-mind, making them much more powerful when in groups.[1] The Zoni helped Ratchet and Clank on their journey for the Lombax Secret. For a long time, they were only visible to Clank and gave him visions to see into the future, the ability to slow down time and new Gadgets; the the Robo-Wings and Geo-Laser. At the end, now visible to everyone, they took Clank and said it was "time to come home and learn who he is and who he will become".

They appeared at the end of Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty in the Breegus Nebula in a dark room with Clank suspended in a blue light. Clank was talking delusionally, and the Zoni assured him that "the doctor" would be able to "repair" him. A door then opened and in walked (or rather, in fell) Dr. Nefarious with his robotic butler Lawrence.

In Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, the Zoni were shown to assist in the maintenance of the Great Clock. Their numbers were originally at over 117,000, but Nefarious's Hypersonic Brainwave Scrambler either chased them away or killed them, reducing their numbers to less than 205. Ratchet was able to find the lost Zoni and return them to the Clock at the end of the game.

Zoni was also an unlockable skin to Clank in Secret Agent Clank.

Orvus was the leader of the Zoni and creator of the Great Clock. He left the Great Clock and everything in it, including the Orvus Chamber to his son, Clank.

[edit] Appearance

The Zoni's heads were actually shaped like boom boxes with their eyes looking like the speakers as well as their antennas looking like the ones found on such a device. They also emmited a strange blue energy than covered most of their body.

[edit] Collectibles

Ratchet finding a Zoni on a spherical world.

In Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, Ratchet would need to find as many Zoni as he could on each planet to lead him to Clank. Finding the Zoni was very similar to finding Gold Bolts. The more Zoni Ratchet found, the better he could upgrade his ship and weapons. [2] There were 40 Zoni in A Crack in Time that Ratchet needed to collect. Zoni were found a lot on spherical worlds. When he collected all 40 Zoni, Ratchet is challenged to defeat Lord Vorselon. When Ratchet defeated the Vorselon, the player was given access to the Insomniac Moon. The collectible Zoni were placed in a Zoni Vessel.[3] When Zoni were found, Ratchet gained nanotech experience. There were 40 Zoni among the 5 space sectors in the Breegus System.[4] The Zoni could be collected by grabbing one in mid-air via Ratchet's wrench.

[edit] Trivia

  • According to Fongoid lore, the Zoni were the guardians of time. They, along with Orvus, were seen as some sort of religious icon due to the way the Fongoids erected temples and statues based on them.
  • "Zoni" is most likely a parody of "Sony", the publishers of the Ratchet & Clank series.
  • Contrary to popular belief, the Zoni were neither organic life forms or robots, but pure energy. They used their metallic bodies when they traveled around the universe.
